As of 2003, the town had an estimated population of 11,424 and a density of 152.08 persons per km<sup>2</sup>. The total area was 75.12 km<sup>2</sup>.
On March 31, 2005, Kuse, along with the town of Hokubà  (from Jà Âbà  District), and towns of Katsuyama, Ochiai and Yubara, and the villages of Chà «ka, Kawakami, Mikamo and Yatsuka (all from Maniwa District) were merged to create the city of Maniwa.
