Je (ÃÂ ÃÂ; italics: <span style="font-family: times, 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: larger">ÃÂ ÃÂ</span>) is a letter of the Cyrillic script, taken over from the Latin letter J.
It commonly represents the palatal approximant , like the pronunciation of in "hallelujah".
The Cyrillic letter àwas introduced in the 1818 Serbian dictionary of Vuk StefanoviàKaradà ¾iÃÂ, on the basis of the Latin letter J. Karadà ¾iàhad previously used àinstead for the same sound, a usage he took from Dositej ObradoviÃÂ, and the final choice also notably edged out another expected candidate, ù, used in every other standard Slavic-language Cyrillic script.
An asterisk (*) means the language does not use the letter in its writing anymore.
