This enzyme belongs to the family of hydrolases, specifically those acting on carboxylic ester bonds. The systematic name is <small>D</small>-glucurono-6,2-lactone lactonohydrolase. It is also called glucuronolactonase. It participates in ascorbate and aldarate metabolism.
