Sangharama (Sanskrit: à ¤¸à ¤Âà ¤Âà ¤¾à ¤°à ¤¾à ¤® Saá¹ÂghÃÂrÃÂma) refers to a "temple" or "monastery." It is the place, including its garden or grove, where the Sangha, the Buddhist monastic community dwells. A famous sanghÃÂrÃÂma was that of Kukkuá¹ÂÃÂrÃÂma in PÃÂá¹Âaliputra. The Kukkutura sanghÃÂrÃÂma was later destroyed and its monks killed by Puá¹£yamitra of Mauryan lineage, according to the second century Aà ÂokÃÂvadÃÂna. "Then King Pushyamitra equipped a fourfold army, and intending to destroy the Buddhist religion, he went to the Kukkutarama. (...) Pushyamitra therefore destroyed the sanghÃÂrÃÂma, killed the monks there, and departed."
