Zephyranthes subg. Zephyranthes is a subgenus of the genus Zephyranthes in the amaryllis family of flowering plants.
Species in the genus are bulbous, 4âÂÂ50 cm tall plants with or ovoid, globose, or pyriform bulbs. The annual or persistent, linear leaves are 10âÂÂ30(âÂÂ60) cm long, and (1âÂÂ)2âÂÂ9(âÂÂ13) mm wide.
The 1âÂÂ2 flowered inflorescence bears actinomorphic or zygomorphic flowers. The stigma is trifid to trilobed. The capsule fruit bears papery, black, flat, sometimes winged seeds.
The basic chromosome number is x = 6. Various chromosome counts have been observed: 2n = 12, 14, 20, 24, 28, 30, 32, 36, 38, 48, 54, 60, 72, 110.
The subgenus name is an autonym.
