Wahyu Hidayat

Wahyu Hidayat or also familiarly called Pak Mbois (born 17 December 1966) is an Indonesian bureaucrat and politician from the Gerindra Party who served as Mayor of Malang for the 2025–2030 term. He served since 20 February 2025 after being inaugurated by President Prabowo Subianto at the Istana Negara, Jakarta. Previously, he served as Acting Mayor of Malang from 24 September 2023 to 10 August 2024. He also served as Regional Secretary of Malang Regency in the 2020–2023 period.

Personal life

Wahyu Hidayat married Hanik Andriani in 1993. From this marriage, they were blessed with one daughter who is now married.

Education

Wahyu spent his childhood and completed his elementary education at SD Bareng Kulon 2 Malang (1974–1979). Then, he moved to Probolinggo to continue his studies at SMP Negeri 1 Kraksaan (1979–1982) and SMA Proyek Perintis Sekolah Pembangunan IKIP, which is now known as SMA Negeri 8 Malang (1982–1985). After graduating from high school, he continued his studies in the Planning Engineering program (Now Regional and City Planning), Malang National Institute of Technology and earned an Engineering degree in 1991.

In 1998, he earned a Master of Management degree after two years of study at Mitra Indonesia College of Economics. In 2018, he earned a Doctorate in Social Sciences after three years of study at Merdeka University of Malang.

Career

Becoming Mayor of Malang

On 29 August 2024, Wahyu Hidayat officially registered to participate in the 2024 Malang mayoral election. He was accompanied by Ali Muthohirin, a PSI politician, and was supported by Gerindra, PSI, PKS, Golkar, NasDem, and was supported by 8 non-parliamentary parties.

While he was participating in the Pilkada contest, Wahyu was also officially appointed as a Gerindra cadre. On 20 September 2024, Wahyu Hidayat was appointed as chairman of the advisory board of the Gerindra Party for Malang City. After the vote, the Wahyu Hidayat- Ali Muthohirin pair received the support of 203.257 votes or 49,62 percent of the total valid votes. They were then appointed by the Malang City KPU as the elected mayor and deputy mayor on Thursday, February 6, 2025.
