Vinodarayunipalem

Vinodarayunipalem is a village in the Prakasam District of Andhra Pradesh in India, located from Ongole, the district headquarters. The village is the birthplace of Tanguturi Prakasam, the first chief minister of the former Andhra State. The village resides near the Bay of Bengal through the Kanaparthi seashore point, featuring a scenic village with lush green crops in winter, and summers that bring humid winds and harsh weather for those not habituated.

Vinodarayunipalem serves as the birthplace of Tanguturi Prakasam Pantulu (1872-1957), a Telugu Brahmin independence activist, barrister, and statesman who earned the title Andhra Kesari ("Lion of Andhra") for his fearless journalism and leadership in the non-cooperation movement, later becoming the first Chief Minister of Andhra State in 1953. The village gained further attention in 2017, when state authorities announced plans to redevelop Prakasam's ancestral site as a model village, integrating central and state funding for infrastructure improvements.

Geography

Vinodarayunipalem lies approximately 29-30 km southeast of Ongole, the district headquarters and nearest major urban center. Vinodarayunipalem falls under the oversight of Naguluppala Padu Mandal Parishad, which coordinates development and revenue functions at the sub-district level within Prakasam District's Ongole revenue division. Local governance is managed through the village's gram panchayat, responsible for basic infrastructure, sanitation, and community services as per Andhra Pradesh's three-tier raj system. The district administration, headquartered in Ongole, handles higher-level oversight, including law enforcement and electoral processes.
