Vietato morire (song)

"Vietato morire" () is a song by Italian singer-songwriter Ermal Meta. It was released on 8 February 2017 by Mescal as the first single from the album of the same name. The song competed in the Sanremo Music Festival 2017, placing 3nd, and with which he won the Critics' Award.

Description

The album's opening track, the song serves as a follow-up to the 2014 single "Lettera a mio padre", in which Meta described her conflicted relationship with an abusive father figure. This song, however, addresses the broader theme of domestic violence. The song is one of hope and is dedicated to Meta's mother, who found the courage to sever all ties with her husband and move to Italy with her three children, leaving the past behind.

An alternate version of the song was included as the opening track on the third disc of the deluxe edition of the album.

Music video

The music video, directed Matteo Bruno, was released in conjunction with the song's release on Ermal Meta's YouTube channel.
