This is a list of British periodicals established in the 19th century, excluding daily newspapers.
The periodical press flourished in the 19th century: the Waterloo Directory of English Newspapers and Periodicals plans to eventually list more 100,000 titles; the current Series 3 lists 73,000 titles. 19th-century periodicals have been the focus of extensive indexing efforts, such as that of the Wellesley Index to Victorian Periodicals, 1824âÂÂ1900, Poole's Index to Periodical Literature (now published electronically as part of 19th Century Masterfile), Science in the 19th-Century Periodical and Retrospective Index to Music Periodicals, 1800âÂÂ1950. There are also a number of efforts to republish 19th-century periodicals online, including ProQuest's British Periodicals Collection I and Collection II, Gale's 19th Century UK Periodicals Online and Nineteenth-Century Serials Edition (ncse).
