Valea Chioarului () is a commune in MaramureàCounty, Romania. It is composed of six villages: CurtuiuÃÂu Mare (Nagykörtvélyes), DuruÃÂa (Durusa), Fericea (Szamosfericse), MesteacÃÂn (KisnyÃÂres), Valea Chioarului, and VÃÂrai (Kà Âváralja).
The commune is located in the southwestern part of MaramureàCounty, from the county seat, Baia Mare, on the border with SÃÂlaj County. It lies at an altitude of about , on the banks of the river BârsÃÂu.
Valea Chioarului is crossed by national road (part of European route E58), which runs from Cluj-Napoca north towards Baia Mare and the Ukrainian border at Halmeu.
