Etymology
The most believable version of the origin of the river's name is that it is a composition of the words âÂÂulâ (âÂÂwetâ in Mansi language) and âÂÂvichâ (âÂÂbranchâ from Russian âÂÂvichkaâÂÂ), so it can be translated as âÂÂwet branchâÂÂ. Also, it is may be from the word âÂÂvidzâ (meadow), in which case Ulvich means âÂÂwet meadowâÂÂ.
