Turrubares is a canton in the San José province of Costa Rica.
Turrubares was created on 30 July 1920 by decree 56.
According to Costa Rica's Municipal Code, mayors are elected every four years by the population of the canton. As of the latest municipal elections in 2024, the United We Can (UP) candidate, Martin Vargas Calderón, was elected mayor of the canton with 46.64% of the votes, with Kattia Chacón RodrÃÂguez and Luis Mariano Vargas Rojas as first and second vice mayors, respectively.
Like the mayor and vice mayors, members of the Municipal Council (called ) are elected every four years. Turrubares' Municipal Council has 5 seats for regidores and their substitutes, who can participate in meetings but not vote unless the owning regidor () is absent. The Grande de Tárcoles River delineates the north and northwest boundaries of the canton. The Carara River, Camaronal River and the Fila Negra (Black Mountains) establish the boundary on the west. The south and southwest is marked by the Tulin River, and the Galán River and Azul Creek delineate portions of the canton's border on the east.

Turrubares had an estimated population of inhabitants in 2022, the second lowest in the country behind Monteverde, and up from at the time of the 2011 census.
