Tochtepec

Tochtepec is a town and its surrounding municipality in the Mexican state of Puebla. Its name derives from the Nahuatl words tochtli (rabbit) and tepetl (hill).

In the 2020 census, the municipality reported a total population of 22,454, up 14% from 2010.

Tochtepec is one of Puebla's 217 municipalities, with the town of Tochtepec functioning as its administrative center. Inhabited by Nahua communities since at least 1000 AD and later conquered by the Tolteca-Chichimeca around 1179, it was officially designated a free municipality in 1895, governed by a local administration that includes a municipal presidency and various departments, including public security. As part of the broader Puebla region, specifically within the Angelópolis area, Tochtepec contributes to regional development through local initiatives in economic growth, health, and education.
