- 1743 â Porto dos Cazaes founded by Azoreans.
- 1770 â Settlement becomes official residence of ; renamed "Porto Alegre."
- 1773 â Câmara Municipal (town council) convenes.
- 1779 â (church) construction begins.

- 1803 â Porto Alegre becomes a .

- 2014 â in June, part of 2014 FIFA World Cup (football contest) was held in Porto Alegre.
