The Shower Shirt

The Shower Shirt is a post-surgical, water-resistant garment designed to allow individuals recovering from surgery to shower while shielding surgical incisions, drains, and medical tubing from direct water exposure.

History

The Shower Shirt was invented in 2009 by Lisa Faye Crites, an American journalist and inventor. It is used by individuals recovering from breast and chest surgeries and other procedures involving external drains or medical devices.

The garment was patented in 2013 (US8516613B2), with the patent covering a water-resistant shirt designed to protect surgical incisions and drains during showering. The patent describes features such as sealed openings, adjustable closures, and internal supports to accommodate post-operative devices.

In 2015, Lisa Crites won the inaugural Patient Innovation Award for inventing The Shower Shirt.
