The Heart of a Rose is a 1919 British silent drama film directed by Jack Denton and starring Stella Muir, Henry Victor and Douglas Payne. The film has a northern setting and was filmed in Sheffield. Described as âÂÂa simple story of the novelette type,â it apparently has some âÂÂinteresting scenes of the interior of an iron foundry.â The reviewer â credited only as Lantern Man by The Yorkshire Evening Post â is not that enthusiastic: âÂÂAlthough containing nothing new, it is thoroughly clean and wholesome, and possesses that âÂÂheartâ interest so dear to most cinemagoers.â This âÂÂheart interestâ is based upon Muir's journey from the slums of Sheffield â âÂÂwherein the âÂÂmotherlyâ child âÂÂmindsâ the unwashed ragged urchins, who are not poor because âÂÂthe poor are only those who feel poorâÂÂâ â to a new life as the âÂÂyoung lady of a mansion.â In the view of Lantern Man, it âÂÂhas an appeal that makes for popularity.âÂÂ
