The Dance Dress is a 1955 British television play based on a 1953 play by Michael Vosey.

It was the first straight play for Shirley Eaton, who was under contract to Alex Korda, and the first play by Michael Vosey to be televised..

"I was born and bought up on the edge of a slum," said Vosey who said the story was based on a true incident. "Viewers will see my story taking place in London."

Premise

A young couple, Rickie and Fay, are in love. Fay wants a dance dress. Rickie kills a shopkeeper to get it.

Reception

"Not a successful play" said the Daily Herald, adding "the dialogue did not run true." The Liverpool Echo called it "an extremely poor play."
