Tevfik Odabaşı

Tevfik Odabaşı (born 20 October 1981 in Sungurlu, Çorum) is a Turkish freestyle wrestler. Competing in the 58 kg and 60 kg divisions, Odabaşı won the gold medal at the 2004 European Wrestling Championships and the silver medal at the 2006 European Wrestling Championships. He also won gold at the 2001 Mediterranean Games, and silver medals at the 2005 Mediterranean Games and the 2005 Summer Universiade.

Career

At club level, Odabaşı wrestled for Amasya Şeker and TMO Sports Club in Ankara. In 2000, he won the silver medal in the 58 kg division at the 2000 World Junior Wrestling Championships, establishing himself as one of Turkey's notable freestyle wrestlers at age-group level. He was also listed as a Kırıkkale University athlete in Turkey's delegation for the 2005 Summer Universiade in İzmir.

Odabaşı's first major senior international title came at the 2001 Mediterranean Games, where he won the gold medal in the 58 kg event. At the 2003 World Wrestling Championships, he finished sixth in the 60 kg division. One of his best world-level results came in 2007, when he finished fifth.

The biggest achievement of Odabaşı's career came at the 2004 European Wrestling Championships in Ankara, where he won the gold medal in the men's freestyle 60 kg event. In the final, he faced Russia's Alan Dudayev. After the first period ended 0–0, Odabaşı pinned his opponent in the second period from the clinch position to secure the European title.

Following his European title, Odabaşı represented Turkey at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens. He competed in the men's freestyle 60 kg event and finished 15th overall.

The 2005 season brought multiple medals. Odabaşı won silver in the 60 kg division at the 2005 Mediterranean Games and another silver medal at the 2005 Summer Universiade in İzmir.

At the 2006 European Wrestling Championships in Moscow, Odabaşı won the silver medal. He reached the final after defeating Bulgaria's Anatolie Guidea, Murad Ramazanov of North Macedonia, and Romania's Petru Toarca. In the final, he lost to Russia's Mavlet Batirov in three periods and finished as runner-up.

In 2008, Odabaşı won the silver medal at the Golden Grand Prix in Baku. Later that year, he competed at his second Olympics, the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing. He lost to Murad Ramazanov in the opening round of the men's freestyle 60 kg event and finished 10th overall.
