North Teke, or TÃÂgÃÂ (Tege, Teghe, Itege), is a member of the Teke languages dialect continuum of the Congolese plateau.
Phonology
Consonants
- /b/ can also be heard as [ÃÂ] in free variation.
- /á/ can be heard as [ã] when in between vowels.
- Sounds /dáÃÂ, â¿táÃÂ, â¿dáÃÂ/ can also be heard as alveolar [dáz, â¿tás, â¿dáz] in free variation.
- The following sounds can be labialized as [b÷, k÷, f÷, s÷, dáz÷, ò÷, l÷, m÷, áµÂb÷, â¿táÃÂ÷, â¿dáÃÂ÷, áµÂk÷, áµÂá÷].
- The labialized sounds /k÷, áµÂk÷/ can also be heard as [káp, áµÂkáp].
- The following sounds can be palatalized as [pò, bò, kò, fò, sò, tásò, lò, mò, áµÂpò, áµÂbò, â¿táÃÂò].
Vowels
- Sounds /i, a, u/ can be heard as [ê, ÃÂ, ÃÂ] in lax position.
