Tappan Zee High School is a public high school located in Orangeburg, New York in Rockland County. The school serves students in grades 9âÂÂ12, and is part of the South Orangetown Central School District. The school derives its name from the nearby Tappan Zee section of the Hudson River.
The school draws students from Orangetown, New York, which comprises the villages and hamlets of Blauvelt, Grandview, Orangeburg, Tappan, Palisades, Piermont, Upper Grandview, Sparkill, and portions of South Nyack.
As of the 2021âÂÂ22 school year, the school had an enrollment of 945 students and 89.6 classroom teachers (on an FTE basis), for a studentâÂÂteacher ratio of 10.66:1. There were 144 students (15.2% of enrollment) eligible for free lunch, and 21 (2.2% of students) eligible for reduced-cost lunch. In 2006, the school dedicated new athletic fields and tennis courts, including an artificial turf football/lacrosse field and track. In 2019, the school replaced the artificial turf field that was installed in 2006 with a newer, more environmentally friendly, turf.
