The Struga Dialect (, StruÃ
¡ki dijalekt) is a member of the western and north western subgroup of the western group of dialects of Macedonian. The dialect is spoken in Struga, Pogradec, Pustec, and up to the Golo Brdo and in the surrounding hinterland. The dialect has many similarities with the VevÃÂani-RadoÃ
¾da, Ohrid and KorÃÂa dialects.
Phonological characteristics
- change of word-initial (ÃÂò-) to (ÃÂÃÂ): ÃÂòõàâ ÃÂÃÂà/ cvet â cut 'flower'
- loss of intervocalic (ò): ÿÃÂðòþ â ÿÃÂðþ / pravo â prao 'straight ahead'
- loss of intervocalic (ó): ÃÂõóð â ÃÂõð / sega â sea 'now'
- loss of intervocalic (ô): þôøüõ â þøüõ or þÃÂüõ / odime â ojme 'we go'
- merger of /c/ (ÃÂ) with /táÃÂ/ (ÃÂ): ÃÂõ â ÃÂõ 'will'
- merger of /ÃÂ/ (ÃÂ) with /dáÃÂ/ (ÃÂ): ûÃÂÃÂõ â ûÃÂÃÂõ 'people'
