Statue of Cesar Chavez

Cesar Chavez is an outdoor statue depicting the American labor leader and civil rights activist of the same name by artist Pablo Eduardo, installed on the University of Texas at Austin campus, in Austin, Texas. The bronze sculpture was unveiled on the West Mall, between Battle Hall and the West Mall Office Building, in October 2007.

In March 2026, The New York Times published an investigation alleging that Chavez had sexually abused women and girls over the course of decades, including minors connected to the farmworker movement. In Austin, the fallout led to the cancellation of the annual Cesar Chavez parade and celebration, and city leaders began the process of renaming Cesar Chavez Street. Community leaders said the future of the UT Austin statue remained under discussion, with local activist Susana Almanza of PODER stating that it was "too early to tell" whether the statue would be removed.
