Kaufman (1994: 64) groups Leco and SechuraâÂÂCatacao together as part of a proposed Macro-Lecoan family.
Tovar (1961), partly based on Schmidt (1926), classifies SechuraâÂÂCatacao together with the Chimuan languages in his YungaâÂÂPuruhá family.
