As of 2003, the town had an estimated population of 7,577 and a density of 69.49 persons per km<sup>2</sup>. The total area was 109.03 km<sup>2</sup>.
On March 31, 2005, Sakutà Â, along with the towns of Mimasaka (former), Aida and à Âhara, the village of Higashiawakura (all from Aida District), and the town of Katsuta (from Katsuta District), was merged to create the city of Mimasaka.
