Rạch Giá

RÃ¡ÂºÂ¡ch GiÃÂ¡ () is a provincial city and the former capital of KiÃÂªn Giang province, Vietnam. It is located on the Eastern coast of the Gulf of Thailand, southwest of Ho Chi Minh City. East of city, it borders TÃÂ¢n HiÃ¡Â»Âp and ChÃÂ¢u ThÃÂ nh town, the Gulf of Thailand is to the West and surrounds some parts of the city, south of the city is ChÃÂ¢u ThÃÂ nh and An BiÃÂªn town, and to the North it borders HÃÂ²n ÃÂÃ¡ÂºÂ¥t and TÃÂ¢n HiÃ¡Â»Âp.

On 1 July 2025, RÃ¡ÂºÂ¡ch GiÃÂ¡ ceased to exist as a municipal city following the elimination of district level units in Vietnam.

RÃ¡ÂºÂ¡ch GiÃÂ¡ was upgraded from a town to a city by Government Decree No. 97/2005/NÃÂ-CP on July 26, 2005. The city has 12 administrative units:

RÃ¡ÂºÂ¡ch GiÃÂ¡ is the first city where the Vietnamese government applied a "lÃ¡ÂºÂ¥n biÃ¡Â»Ân" project to build out to the ocean to expand territory. The "lÃ¡ÂºÂ¥n biÃ¡Â»Ân" project expanded the city to become one of the biggest new cities in southwest Vietnam. This project added 2 more new wards in RÃ¡ÂºÂ¡ch GiÃÂ¡. Besides that, several future construction projects such as industrial center Rach Vuot and urban city VÃÂ©nh HiÃ¡Â»Âp which will be started after finishing LÃ¡ÂºÂ¡c HÃ¡Â»Âng Bridge will expand RÃ¡ÂºÂ¡ch GiÃÂ¡ to the east.

Climate

RÃ¡ÂºÂ¡ch GiÃÂ¡ has a tropical savanna climate (KÃÂ¶ppen Aw), not quite wet enough to be classified as a tropical monsoon climate (Am) though wetter than most climates of its type. There is a very pronounced dry season from December to March, but rainfall is consistently heavy for the remaining eight months of the year.

Transportation

RÃ¡ÂºÂ¡ch GiÃÂ¡ has 2 main stations: RÃ¡ÂºÂ¡ch SÃ¡Â»Âi station (main routes to neighbor towns or provinces on highway 61 and 63) and RÃ¡ÂºÂ¡ch GiÃÂ¡ station (main routes to Ho Chi Minh City and HÃÂ TiÃÂªn). Those are the main stations to transport passengers to other towns in the province, or to other provinces in Vietnam.

The bus transportation system was developed pretty early. Passengers can take the bus from RÃ¡ÂºÂ¡ch GiÃÂ¡ to 4 other towns: ChÃÂ¢u ThÃÂ nh (route RÃ¡ÂºÂ¡ch GiÃÂ¡ Ã¢ÂÂ TÃ¡ÂºÂ¯c CÃ¡ÂºÂu), GiÃ¡Â»Âng RiÃ¡Â»Âng (route RÃ¡ÂºÂ¡ch GiÃÂ¡ Ã¢ÂÂ GiÃ¡Â»Âng RiÃ¡Â»Âng), TÃÂ¢n HiÃ¡Â»Âp (route RÃ¡ÂºÂ¡ch GiÃÂ¡ Ã¢ÂÂ Kinh B), HÃÂ²n ÃÂÃ¡ÂºÂ¥t (route RÃ¡ÂºÂ¡ch GiÃÂ¡ Ã¢ÂÂ TÃÂ¡m NgÃÂ n).

Currently, RÃ¡ÂºÂ¡ch GiÃÂ¡ Airport is the biggest airport in RÃ¡ÂºÂ¡ch GiÃÂ¡. RÃ¡ÂºÂ¡ch GiÃÂ¡ airport has flight routes to Ho Chi Minh City with Vietnam Airlines.

RÃ¡ÂºÂ¡ch GiÃÂ¡ has 2 big ship stations: RÃ¡ÂºÂ¡ch GiÃÂ¡ ship station or PhÃÂº QuÃ¡Â»Âc ship station (routes to PhÃÂº QuÃ¡Â»Âc island and other big islands such as PhÃÂº QuÃ¡Â»Âc, Hon Tre, HÃÂ²n SÃÂ¡n and ThÃ¡Â»Â Chu) and RÃ¡ÂºÂ¡ch MÃ¡ÂºÂ½o station (route to rural towns of CÃÂ Mau Peninsula). High speed ship is the economic choice for passengers to PhÃÂº QuÃ¡Â»Âc island or KiÃÂªn HÃ¡ÂºÂ£i islands.
