Philoxenus of Leucas

Philoxenus of Leucas Philoxenus (in ancient Greek : Φιλόξενος ,Latin : Philoxenus), son of Eryxis, was a poet of ancient Greece, native of the island of Leucas.

Biography

He lived around the 4th and 3rd centuries BC and wrote several works that have been preserved only in small fragments. He died in Ephesus.

Bibliography

He is the author of the poem The Banquet, the description of a splendid dinner written in dactylo-epitrites and in dithyrambic language.

The Cookery-book quoted by Plato and written in dactylic hexameters is probably another poem written by him.
