Perfect Crown

Perfect Crown () is an upcoming South Korean romantic comedy television series written by Yoo Ji-won, and directed by and , and starring IU, Byeon Woo-seok, Noh Sang-hyun, and Gong Seung-yeon. The series unfolds when the second daughter of a chaebol family enter a contract marriage with the second son of the king. It is scheduled to premiere on MBC TV on April 10, 2026, and will air every Friday and Saturday at 21:40 (KST). It will also be available for streaming on Disney+.

Synopsis

The series follows the story of a woman named Sung Hui-ju, who feels frustrated by her status as a commoner, even though she is a member of a conglomerate, and Prince I-an, who experiences sorrow as the king's son yet possesses nothing.

The second son of a royal family, whose existence poses an inherent political threat to the King. Under constant surveillance by Queen Dowager Yoon Yi-rang, he faces increasing pressure to enter a strategic marriage that would further limit his autonomy.
Born into a prominent political family, he serves as Prince I-an's confidant. His background provides him with the connections and influence to navigate the palace's inner circles alongside the Prince.
A member of a politically dominant lineage that has produced four queens, she is driven by the need to secure her young son's future. Her position makes her wary of I-an's influence, leading her to aggressively advocate for his marriage to neutralize him as a potential rival.

Production

Development

MBC and Kakao Entertainment announced the production of Perfect Crown, a contemporary romance series set within an alternative-reality South Korean constitutional monarchy. Developed from an award-winning script written by Yoo Ah-in from the 2022 MBC Drama Screenplay Contest, the project was planned by Kang Dae-seon. Directed by , who helmed Alchemy of Souls (2022–23), and while Yoo Ji-won served as screenwriter.

Casting

In December 2024, Kakao Entertainment confirmed that IU and Byeon Woo-seok would star in the series. Three months after the confirmation, TV Daily reported that IU and Byeon would be leaving due to scheduling conflicts but it was denied by their agencies. In April 2025, Noh Sang-hyun and Gong Seung-yeon were cast following IU and Byeon. In June 2025, Yoo Su-bin, Lee Yeon, and Chae Seo-an also join the cast.

Filming

Principal photography commenced in May 2025.

Release

Perfect Crown was originally slated to premiere on MBC TV in the second half of 2025, but then it was decided to air it either at the end of the year or in 2026. The series was reported for an April 3, 2026 broadcast. In November 2025, Disney+ unveiled that the series will also be available to stream on their platform. In March 2026, the premiere date was confirmed to be on April 10, and will air in MBC's Friday–Saturday timeslot at 21:40 (KST).
