The PÃÂygÃÂn-sÃÂlÃÂr were commanders of the infantry units (paygan) within the Sassanid armies. The Paygan-salar were very respected and trustworthy men, they would be guarded by the elite Dailamites.
The PaygÃÂn-SÃÂlÃÂrs may have also acted as warden of prisons.
