PEI Youth Centre

PEI Youth Centre also known as Summerside Youth Centre is a youth detention centre that opened in 1988, in Summerside, Prince Edward Island, Canada. It holds youth aged 12 to 17 and it has a capacity of 32 although they are only staffed to handle 16 people.

In February 2021, the province started holding adult females at the youth centre, though it is said to be temporary, citing capacity issues at the adult prison.

Escapes

• On March 6, 2000, two male youth aged 15 and 16 had escaped. Police issued warrants and charged both of them with escape from custody. A car may have been stolen afterward.
• On August 23, 2010, a 17 year-old male escaped.
