Online Khabar

Online Khabar (Nepali: अनलाइनखबर) is a Nepalese independent digital news portal and an early platform in the country’s online journalism landscape. Established in 2006, the platform has grown from a digital startup into one of the widely visited news sources in Nepal. Operating with a digital-first approach, Online Khabar focuses on real-time reporting and technological innovation in news delivery.

Innovation and digital products

Online Khabar operates as a digital-only news platform and focuses on real-time reporting and data-driven journalism.

Its features include:

  • Election coverage and data portal – Provides live election results, historical trends, and analytical reporting during local, provincial, and federal elections.
  • Share market dashboard – Offers updates and analysis related to the Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE).
  • Sports reporting and live coverage – Publishes coverage of national and international sporting events.

Health journalism

Online Khabar publishes health-related content in collaboration with medical professionals. The platform features articles written by doctors and healthcare experts, focusing on public health information.

History

Online Khabar was founded by Dharma Raj Bhusal. Its role became more prominent during the 2015 Gorkha earthquake, when digital platforms became an important source of information as print media distribution was disrupted. By 2020, it had become one of the widely visited news portals in Nepal.

The organization later expanded into broadcast media through the acquisition of Himalaya TV, integrating digital and television content. In 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic reporting was done by the news portal without any official confirmation.

Reach and editorial position

Online Khabar serves audiences in Nepal and among the Nepali diaspora. It has expressed support for press freedom and has taken positions against media censorship.
