Nile Rodgers is an American guitarist, songwriter, and record producer. A Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Songwriters Hall of Fame inductee, he has won six Grammy awards, including the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award.
Rodgers founded Chic with Bernard Edwards in 1972; "Le Freak", released in 1978 on Chic's second album, C'est Chic, was #1 on the r&b, disco, and pop charts, where it was #1 for six weeks. "Good Times", from their third album, Risqué, became one of the most sampled songs in music history. Edwards and Rogers also wrote and produced Sister Sledge's "We Are Family" and "He's the Greatest Dancer" and Diana Ross's 1980 anthem, "I'm Coming Out".
After Chic's 1983 breakup, Rodgers worked with artists including David Bowie, Daft Punk, Beyoncé, Duran Duran, Madonna, Kylie Minogue, Keith Urban, Michael Jackson, Mick Jagger, Coldplay, Bryan Ferry, Christina Aguilera, Lady Gaga and George Michael. Recognized as one of the greatest guitar players of all time by publications ranging from Guitar Player to JazzTimes, Rolling Stone wrote: There's 'influential', then there's 'massively influential', then there's Nile Rodgers... a true innovator who never slows down, still making history with his guitar."
