NGC 5854 is a lenticular galaxy in the constellation of Virgo. Its velocity with respect to the cosmic microwave background is , which corresponds to a Hubble distance of . However, seven non-redshift measurements give a much closer mean distance of . It was discovered by German-British astronomer William Herschel on 24 February 1786.
According to A. M. Garcia, NGC 5854 is part of the NGC 5846 group (also known as LGG 393). This galaxy group has nine members, including , , NGC 5846, , , , , and . This group is part of the Virgo III Cloud.
