Alhaji Amri Athumanià(1 Augustà1948àâ 8àAugustà2018à) well known asàMzee Majuto wasàa Tanzanian comedian, actor,àdirector, screenwriter andàfilm producer.
He studiedÃÂ at MsambweniÃÂ secondary school located inÃÂ TangaÃÂ Region. He started actingÃÂ inÃÂ 1958ÃÂ (at theÃÂ ageÃÂ of 9 to 10);ÃÂ at that time he was acting on theÃÂ stages. Mzee Majuto was featured in dozens of films including a franchise 'Siri ya Marehemu' starred by Mohamed Fungafunga alias 'Jengua'.
On April 28, 2018,ÃÂ MinisterÃÂ of information, arts and sportsÃÂ at the time, Harrison Mwakyembe visited Mzee Majuto atÃÂ the Muhimbili National Hospital where he was beingÃÂ treatedÃÂ .ÃÂ On that day, Minister Mwakyembe announced the intention of the TanzanianÃÂ governmentÃÂ to send Mzee Majuto toÃÂ India for further treatment.ÃÂ Originally, King Majuto was reported to be sufferingÃÂ from Prostate cancer and he started his treatment inÃÂ TanzaniaÃÂ . On May 1, Mzee Majuto was reportedly flown to India for further treatment.
He was treated in India until hisÃÂ healthÃÂ improved and he returned to Tanzania to continue his clinic at the Muhimbili National hospital.
Mzee Majuto was reported to be overwhelmed, a situation that led to his re-admission to Muhimbili National Hospital in the intensive care unit (ÃÂ ICUÃÂ ). HeÃÂ was pronounced deadÃÂ on August 8, 2018,ÃÂ atÃÂ twoÃÂ o'clock in theÃÂ nightÃÂ in theÃÂ wardsÃÂ of Mwaisera, in Muhimbili National Hospital. He was buried at his hometown in Tanga Region.
