Museum of Modern Art—Port Said

Museum of Modern Art—Port Said is a modern and contemporary art museum in Port Said, Egypt. The city has an international history of being a cultural crossroads and cosmopolitan community, located at the confluence of the Suez Canal and Mediterranean Sea, on the easternmost edge of the Nile Delta region.

Overview

This museum was established on December 25, 1995, in recognition of the struggle and resilience of Port Said and its people, and in an effort to document their heroism as part of Port Said's National Day celebrations, which falls on December 23rd each year. Located in Shohada Square, the museum houses 150 artworks by leading Egyptian artists in various branches of visual arts, including sculpture, photography, paintings, graphic arts, and ceramics, on diverse themes, most of which are nationalistic, as well as the themes of war and peace.

The museum plays a tangible role in the cultural life of Port Said by hosting art and literary seminars, exhibitions, and musical evenings that benefit the city's residents. Furthermore, the museum is committed to promoting art and refined creativity, and to nurturing the talents of Port Said's children through art workshops held at the museum and supervised by professional artists working in the visual arts sector.
