In Manipuri tradition, ' (mosque) denotes a place where the Jumu'ah prayer is performed, while ' (musalla) refers to smaller prayer houses used only for daily Salat. By 1819 CE, 13 ' and 11 ' were reported across the Muslim settlements of Manipur.
