"Momma Miss America" is an instrumental by Paul McCartney from his debut solo album McCartney released in 1970.
The song was recorded completely at McCartney's home in St. John's Wood. McCartney said in 1970: "An instrumental recorded completely at home. Made up as I went along â first a sequence of chords, then a melody on top."
McCartney later said of the song, "Originally it was two pieces, but they ran into each other by accident and became one." The original title of âÂÂMomma Miss Americaâ was âÂÂRock âÂÂNâ Roll SpringtimeâÂÂ, as shouted at the start of the recording. The edit of the two parts can be heard at the 1âÂÂ57â point.
The two sections bear little resemblance to one another: the first begins in A minor and switches into A major, while the second part is in G major and follows a different Rhythm and Chord structure. its drum break has been sampled in many hip-hop songs, including CommonâÂÂs âÂÂThisismeâÂÂ, the Artifactsâ âÂÂFlexi With Da Tech(nique)âÂÂ, The Rootsâ âÂÂThe FireâÂÂ, and The Beastie Boysâ âÂÂJohnny RyallâÂÂ.
Whenever a list is being made of the âÂÂgreatest samplesâ in Hip-hop, âÂÂJohnny Ryallâ is often included.
