Mini and the Mozzies

Mini and the Mozzies () is a 2014 Danish animated children's film directed by Flemming Quist Møller and Jannik Hastrup from a screenplay by Møller, based on the eponymous series of children's books by Møller. Produced by Dansk Tegnefilm, Mini and the Mozzies was released in Danish theatres on 12 June 2014 by Nordisk Film Distribution.

The film centers on Mini, a small beetle who performs in a flea circus alongside mosquito companions Egon and Dagmar. After being bullied by the flea Miranda, Mini accidentally disrupts Dagmar's line-dancing act and, overcome with embarrassment, runs away. Her journey leads her into a series of adventures, including an encounter with a group of insect thieves led by the dung beetle Basse, through which she learns important lessons about bravery, friendship, and standing up to bullying.

With an estimated budget of €2 million, the film uses a traditional cutout animation style, combining hand-drawn elements with digital techniques to create a colorful, tactile visual effect distinct from contemporary fully digital animation. It premiered in Denmark on June 12, 2014, and later appeared internationally at the Berlin International Film Festival in 2015 within the Generation Kplus section, ultimately earning $157,515 worldwide.

The narrative expands on the creators’ earlier collaboration in A Tale of Two Mozzies (2007) and draws inspiration from a 1967 children’s book featuring Egon and Dagmar. Blending satirical humor, lively jazz-influenced music, and playful storytelling, the film explores social relationships in a way that resonates with both children and adults. Veteran animator Jannik Hastrup—known for works such as Benny’s Bathtub and the Circleen series—and artist Flemming Quist Møller reunite to craft a gentle, character-driven story that highlights reconciliation and the importance of genuine friendship within a vividly imagined insect world.
