This is a list of all theatrical animated shorts released by Warner Bros. Pictures under the Looney Tunes (LT) and Merrie Melodies (MM) banners between the years of 1940 and 1949.
A total of 306 shorts were released during the 1940s.

With the exceptions of The Early Worm Gets the Bird, Ali-Baba Bound, and The Timid Toreador, all cartoons from this year had their copyrights renewed by Warner Bros-Seven Arts and United Artists Associated between 1967 and 1969 and will enter the public domain on January 1, 2036.
From this year onward, story credits are fully implemented unless otherwise noted. After Porky's Snooze Reel, all black-and-white Looney Tunes cartoons onwards are in the public domain, as their copyrights weren't renewed by 1970 by Warner Bros.
All Merrie Melodies cartoons from this year are under copyright by United Artists Associated, except where noted.
This year marks the beginning of production of color Looney Tunes.
The Blue Ribbon Merrie Melodies re-release program starts this year.
With the sole exception of The Wise Quacking Duck, all Looney Tunes cartoons released this year are in the public domain, as their copyrights weren't renewed by Warner Bros. and United Artists by 1971.
Leon Schlesinger sold his cartoon studio to Warner Bros. Pictures in 1944; Eddie Selzer took over as producer after Buckaroo Bugs was released.
