Media24 is a South African mass media company and a subsidiary of Naspers, a global media and e-commerce group. Headquartered in the Media24 Centre in Cape Town, South Africa, the company operates across digital media, television, book publishing, and print distribution.
Established on 1 August 2000, Media24's origins trace back to the founding of Naspers in 1914. It operates news24, one of SA's largest online news websites by readership.
Media24 was founded in August 2000.
In late 2024, the company sold its community newspapers, its logistics division On the Dot, and its soccer publications Kick Off and Soccer Laduma, to publishing company Novus.
Major South African publishing company Caxton challenged the sale in court, but its appeal via the Competition Tribunal was turned down by the Competition Appeal Court.
In 2025, the company launched a dedicated Media division to sit alongside its existing Media24 Books and Media24 TV. The new Media24 Media division was structured around four different subdivisions - English media (with news24 as its flagship publication), Afrikaans media (with Netwerk24 as its flagship), B2B, and integrated Advertising & Content Marketing.
At the same time, the company announced that it was investing in AI capabilities to enhance experiences for its clients and consumers, across the company's platforms.
In September 2025 financial results, parent company Naspers reported that Media24 group revenue had declined by 38% year-over-year, and that in terms of EBIDTA, the group had made a loss of $9 million during its 2025 financial year.
