Macrotermes gilvus is a species of termite in the family Termitidae, found in Cambodia, East Timor, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.
They also make fungus combs, which, when mature enough, will sprout special mushrooms.
Macrotermes gilvus is estimated to have likely emerged 2.67 million years ago.
Part of the newly emerged Macrotermes genus, they are also related to Macrotermes nnandalei and Macrotermes chaiglomi.
Macrotermes gilvus termites are typically aggressive with other colonies. They typically forage for fungus buds after growing.
