M. Mohan Alva

M. Mohan Alva (born 31 May 1952) is an Indian educationist, philanthropist and cultural organizer from Moodbidri, Karnataka. He is the founder of the Alva's Education Foundation (AEF), a group of educational, health and cultural institutions in coastal Karnataka.

Early life and education

Mohan Alva was born in a rural family in Mijar near Moodbidri, Karnataka. He completed primary schooling locally and later obtained a degree in Ayurveda from S D M College of Ayurveḑa, Udupi.

Career

After graduation in Ayurveda, Alva began practicing Ayurveda and later established a pharmacy and small hospital. In 1995, he founded the Alva's Education Foundation with the aim of providing value-based education. And foundation manages schools, pre-university colleges, degree colleges, professional institutions and cultural centres.

Alva is the organizer of major cultural events in Karnataka such as:

  • Alva’s Virasat
  • Alva’s Nudisiri

These programmes promote classical arts, literature, heritage, and intercultural dialogue. Thousands of artists and scholars from India and abroad participate annually.

Mohan Alva has received several honours for contributions to education, cultural promotion and community service, including:

  • Dr Kota Shivarama Karantha Huttuura Prashasthi
  • Nominated as C.C.I.M. Member for 5 years (2007–2011) by Central Council for Indian Medicine, New Delhi
