Luz ( Là «z) is the name of two places in the Bible.
Luz is the ancient name of a royal Canaanite city, connected with Bethel in and . According to Rashi, it is debated whether Luz and Bethel represent the same town - the former the Canaanite name, and the latter the Hebrew name - or whether they were distinct places in close proximity to each other. According to the Hebrew Bible in Genesis 28:19, Luz was renamed by Jacob: "He named that site Bethel; but previously the name of the city had been Luz."
