Litera is an American software corporation headquartered in Chicago, Illinois. They create and license productivity and risk management software aimed at law firms. In December 2009, Litera acquired Softwise Inc. in its biggest acquisition to date. The company acquired CitationWare LLC in 2011. In 2019 Litera acquired competing fileshare company Workshare.
Litera sells documentation automation platforms, server-based document metadata cleaner, PDF editor and binders, Table of Authorities generators, email encryption software, and multiple collaboration platforms.
Litera One is the companyâÂÂs unified platform for drafting, contract review, and firm analytics. In July 2025, Litera announced the introduction of Lito, a new AI agent integrated into the Litera One platform. The agent is designed to perform multi-step tasks within the system, responding to natural-language requests by selecting the appropriate tools and completing tasks on behalf of users.
