As of 2003, the town had an estimated population of 4,321 and a density of 186.89 persons per km<sup>2</sup>. The total area was 23.12 km<sup>2</sup>.
On October 1, 2004, Kuka, along with the towns of à Âshima, Tachibana and Tà Âwa (all from à Âshima District), was merged to create the town of Suà Â-à Âshima.
