James Lawrie (film executive)

James Haldane Lawrie (190710 December 1979) was a British film executive best known for being head of the National Film Finance Corporation until 1951. In this capacity he played a key role in financing many films. He was crucial to the three different "group" financial schemes where the NFFC would co finance - British Film-Makers, the Elstree Group, and Group Three productions.

Prior to working for the NFFC, Lawrie had been a banker. He later turned producer for feature films, was Chairman of the British Film Academy, Deputy chairman of the English Opera Group and Chairman of the Air Transport Licensing Board.
