Hyve Group

Hyve Group Limited, formerly ITE Group, is an international organiser of exhibitions and conferences. It is one of the top three conference organisers in the UK, and, as the organiser of some of the largest international conferences including the annual ASU+GSV Summit (for educationalists), the annual Behavioral Health Tech conference and the annual Mineral Metals Metallurgy & Materials (MMMM) exhibition, it stands at No.8 in the top 10 conference organisers in the world.

History

The business was founded by Roger and Roddy Shashoua as "International Trade Exhibitions" (ITE) in 1991. The company launched a series of trade events in the new market economies of Russia and the CIS in the 1990s. It was the subject of an initial public offering on the London Stock Exchange in 1998 and it became a constituant of the FTSE 250 Index, as one of the largest companies on the London Stock Exchange by capitalisation, in the quarterly review in June 2007.

The company grew both organically and by acquisition after the company's former finance director, Russell Taylor, was appointed chief executive in January 2008. In 2008 it acquired Primexpo NW LLC, a conference organiser based in St Petersburg and has subsequently acquired further businesses in Moscow (MVK), Krasnodar (Krasnodar LLC), Istanbul (YEMF and Platform Exhibitions), Kyiv (Autoexpo and Beautex), Mumbai (ABEC) and Kuala Lumpur (Trade Link). In 2014, 59% of the company's revenue was still generated in Russia.

After Russell stood down, Roger Shashoua's son, Mark, became chief executive in May 2016. The new management led the rebranding of the company from ITE Group to Hyve Group in September 2019.

In December 2019, Hyve acquired two US-based events: Shoptalk and Groceryshop. Under the new management the company focussed on the largest conferences, thereby reducing costs and increasing margins. At its peak in January 2020, the company's share price reached 610p, valuing the business at £2.7 billion. However the COVID-19 pandemic hit the company particularly hard as conferences were cancelled and revenues collapsed. The company organised an emergency rights issue, raising £126 million to sustain its deteriorating financial position, in June 2020. In the Conference Awards 2020, the company won the award for "Best Large Scale Event or Congress".

Following COVID-19, the company changed it focus from in-person events to online events. It also changed its focus towards "matchmaking" using algorithms to link up delegates. Then, in March 2022, Hyve acquired Meetup, a US-based fintech event organiser. During 2022, the company withdrew from the emerging markets, selling its businesses in Russia and Ukraine and focussing the business on Europe, the United States and the Middle East.

On 15 March 2023, Providence Equity's acquisition vehicle Heron UK Bidco Limited announced a recommended cash offer worth £481 million for the company. In April 2023, Searchlight Capital became bidding partner of Providence for its agreed takeover. The takeover was strongly contested as some shareholders, including M&G, Redwheel and Blackmoor Investment Partners, thought the offer undervalued the company. However, the bidders made an increased offer worth £524 million in May 2023, and the deal was completed in June 2023.

In July 2024, Hyve acquired POSSIBLE, a US-based marketing event from Beyond Ordinary Events, Inc., its first acquisition since it was taken over by Providence Equity Partners, and, in October 2024, Hyve acquired HLTH, a healthcare event organiser, bringing annual events HLTH USA, ViVE and HLTH Europe into its portfolio.

Operations

The company's events include the annual ASU+GSV Summit, one of the largest education conferences in the US, which brought 15,000 delegates to San Diego in April 2025. The delegates have been described as "world's largest edtech community". The company also organises the annual Behavioral Health Tech conference, which is the fastest growing event in mental health according to Forbes. It also organises the annual Mineral Metals Metallurgy & Materials (MMMM) exhibition: this has been described as the "premier platform for the metals and materials industry".

In 2024, the company held about 30 events, which focused on Europe, the United States and the Middle East.
