Harriet Chung

Harriet Chung is a Hong Kong-born actress, singer and dancer. She has worked extensively in musical theatre, including performing the title role in Golden Lotus in Hong Kong, and appearing at the Stratford Festival in Salesman in China.

Career

Theatre

In 2014, Chung played the title role in the world premiere of the musical Golden Lotus in Hong Kong, which was positively reviewed, with critics highlighting her performance.

She later appeared at the Stratford Festival in Salesman in China at the Avon Theatre, where she was credited in multiple roles, including Hui Li and Auntie Zhao, and also served as movement director for the production.

Her involvement in Salesman in China was discussed positively in critical reviews, which highlighted her contributions to the production’s movement direction and staging, including a propaganda-style opera sequence inspired by Mao-era performance traditions within the play.

In 2025, Chung reprised her roles in Salesman in China at the National Arts Centre in Ottawa.

Chung has appeared in major international musical theatre productions, including The Phantom of the Opera in Toronto and Cats in Hamburg. She was also closely involved with The King and I, where she both performed and served as choreographer. Chung danced the role of Eliza in the “Small House of Uncle Thomas” ballet and created the choreography for the Gateway Theatre production. Her choreographic work received recognition from the local theatre community with an Ovation Award nomination for Outstanding Choreography at Gateway Theatre.

Music

In addition to her theatre work, Chung has released recorded music as a solo artist. In 2022 and 2023, she released several independent singles, including "Vancouver", "Through My Tears", "Place for Dreams", and "Today and Tomorrow", which received coverage from Canadian music outlets such as Tinnitist and Cashbox Canada. Additional singles from this period include "Dawn Till Dusk" and "As Each Day Goes By".

In January 2023, Chung released her debut solo album A World Away. Canadian music press referenced the album in coverage of “Today and Tomorrow”, identifying the track as part of the release and noting that the album opens with “A World Away (Remix)”.

Coverage of her releases has also appeared in music and entertainment press, including reporting on the single "Old Montreal".

In 2024, she released the singles "Hold Me Tight" and "Popcorn Film". "Popcorn Film" was included in a singles and album review roundup by Ottawa Life Magazine. BroadwayWorld additionally reported on the release of the single.
