Georgian National University (Georgian: á¡áÂÂáÂ¥áÂÂá áÂÂáÂÂáÂÂáÂÂáÂÂá¡ áÂÂá áÂÂáÂÂáÂÂá£áÂÂá á£áÂÂáÂÂáÂÂáÂÂá á¡áÂÂá¢áÂÂá¢áÂÂ) is a private higher education institution established in 2001 in Tbilisi, Georgia.
It offers 22 accredited undergraduate, masterâÂÂs, and single medical programs taught in English and Georgian across faculties such as Medicine, Business, Law, and Social Sciences. Enrollment is approximately 8,000-11,000 students, with around 500 academic and visiting staff. SEU has secured national accreditation and international recognition, particularly in its medical faculty.
SEU was founded in 2001 by Gia Kavtelishvili in honour of Ilia Chavchavadze. In 2009, SEU was accredited by the National Center for Education Accreditation, followed by reauthorization in 2014. On 10 June 2021, SEU received unconditional institutional authorization from the Council of Authorization of Higher Education Institutions.
SEU is nationally accredited by the Georgian National Center for Educational Quality Enhancement (NCEQE) and internationally recognized by the World Health Organization (WHO), FAIMER/IMED, and ECFMG. (UK).
SEU comprises four faculties offering around 22 accredited programs across medicine, business, law, social sciences, education, tourism, and public health.
Located at 9 Tsindandali Street in the Isani-Samgori district of Tbilisi, SEU spans roughly 85,000 mò. Facilities include research laboratories, robotic surgical training tools, 3D Anatomy tables, a team learning center, library and reading rooms, multi-use sports areas, two-story libraries, green terraces, and an on-campus hospital affiliated with its medical faculty.
SEU also provides on-campus dormitories for local and international students. Accommodation is typically shared and includes basic utilities and internet access.
The university has a diverse student population, including international students. English-language programs are available, particularly in the Faculty of Medicine. SEU provides student support services such as academic advising, legal assistance related to residency and documentation, health services, and university-managed housing options.
SEU operates an Institutional Research Fund (IRF) to support and advance the universityâÂÂs internal research ecosystem. The fund finances research proposals on a competitive basis and assists both faculty and students in developing and managing innovative projects aligned with SEUâÂÂs broader research strategy.

The Student Self-Government at SEU is the principal representative body for students. Its objectives include promoting student involvement in university affairs and enriching campus life. It also protects studentsâ legal rights, facilitates diverse extracurricular and intellectual activities, and advises university leadership on academic quality and organizational issues.
Its activities include organizing meetings, training, intellectual games, literary, sports, cultural, entertainment, and scientific activities. It also cooperates with universities, government, non-governmental organizations, associations, and state and international organizations.
Student self-government can form unions with student organizations and international student unions in Georgia and abroad.
