Gemmatimonas aurantiaca is a Gram-negative, aerobic, polyphosphate-accumulating micro-organism. It is a Gram-negative, rod-shaped aerobe, with type strain T-27<sup>T</sup> (=JCM 11422<sup>T</sup> =DSM 14586<sup>T</sup>). It replicates by budding.
