Frank Abel ÃÂlvarez (born January 16, 1999) is a Cuban professional baseball pitcher for the Vegueros de Pinar del RÃÂo of the Cuban National Series.
ÃÂlvarez previously played for the Chunichi Dragons organization from Japan's Nippon Professional Baseball and for the Guerreros de Oaxaca of the Mexican League. ÃÂlvarez was named to the Cuba national baseball team for the 2023 World Baseball Classic and the 2026 World Baseball Classic.
In Cuba, ÃÂlvarez made his debut with Vegueros de Pinar del RÃÂo of the Cuban National Series in the 2018âÂÂ19 season. In 11 games in his first season, ÃÂlvarez was 1âÂÂ1 with a 2.76 ERA. ÃÂlvarez did not match that success in his following two seasons, pitching to a 8.05 ERA and 4.47 ERA, respectively.
For the 2022 season, ÃÂlvarez signed a development contract with the Chunichi Dragons of Nippon Professional Baseball. Similar to his time in Pinar del RÃÂo, for the development team, ÃÂlvarez has a very strong first season with a 3.38 ERA in 7 games. In subsequent seasons, ÃÂlvarez struggled to a 5.56 ERA and 6.64 ERA. ÃÂlvarez was not offered a contract after the 2024 season and was never promoted to the main team.
In February 2025, ÃÂlvarez signed with the Guerreros de Oaxaca of the Mexican League. However, he suffered an elbow injury and never made an appearance for the team.
ÃÂlvarez returned to Pinar del RÃÂo for the 2025âÂÂ26 season.
